Last week, I went for a bike ride at a park. I have been begging my mom for days until she finally had time. They call it a park but it is actually a big, giant forest!
I was really excited, you see, because I had been there before and had a great time. But last time we had to take the shortest trail in the forest because we set off too late. Though it was a short trail, I still had a lot of fun! Zooming through the wind and laughing with joy! That was what I expected the next trip to a forest to be like. (Though I warn you, it is not.)
This time, my mom, my little brother, my little sister and I set out to the Park earlier so we could go on the long trail. The first part of the trail was slightly downhill so we were riding really fast. I could barely hear myself and I had to shout so my brother could hear what I was telling him. We were laughing and couldn’t stop smiling when we stopped. We were so excited!!!
Since my mom didn’t have a bike and she had to help my little sister with her bike riding, they were slower than us. So we turned back and rode on the trail again. Because I have just rode it once, I went full speed this time and didn’t even try to brake. To make it even more fun & exciting!

I went much faster and I wasn’t paying much attention to the road. Suddenly I hit a giant rock and lost my balance. I tried to steer straight but then I slipped. Because my legs have rather slow reflexes, I stayed put on my bike. My bike fell to the right side of me. I slid with the bike a bit. And I, following it, hit the ground.
I injured myself. Apparently, my legs were like “It’s my day off, yet so still used me to ride your bike so I’m not gonna do anything to help you.” But my hands had some mercy so when I fell, it helped me lose speed by pressing itself against the dirt but injured itself on the way.
I scraped off some skin at the bottom of my palm which – uncomfortably – had to be right next to my thumb (So I won’t be using them in a few days. Gives them time to rest :D). Since I fell on my right side, my right elbow also had to make a sacrifice and injure itself. I also scraped a bit of my right knee but I am lucky that it doesn’t even hurt. I only noticed I hurt my knee when my mom pointed it out. I also bruised my left thigh, probably hit it on the bicycle when I fell. It didn’t exactly hurt at that moment but starting from the day after that, it did. It only had small red-purplish-dots and the faintest color of green. I can barely see it myself!
My brother – who was riding in front of me – called for my mom and little sister. My mom came to me instantly. My sister, who couldn’t decide if she should leave her bike or stay, took a while longer to get to me. At first, the pain wasn’t nearly as bad. But gradually, the pain appeared. I started to feel as if water was blocking my ears. I had to close my nose and blow constantly. Then everything went a bit blurry.
My mom helped me all the way back home. Obviously, I was in a lot of pain because I was bleeding and had a little shock after the fell. When we arrived home, my mom helped me clean my cuts so they wouldn’t get infected. It hurt a for a while but luckily my mom was only using water.
Some of the skin was stuck to my hand so I had to cut it off. It hurt A LOT. I couldn’t really pick up a cup because I had to spread my thumbs. Couldn’t really wash my hands because water stings, so I didn’t go outside for a few days.
Except for the pain, there were some pros 😀 :
- I didn’t need to do any chores
- Always had a excuse (even for things such as: I can’t hear it because my hands hurt.)
- I get spoiled for a bit. (My mom washes my hair, my siblings get me things, my dad has to go outside and get books from the library)
- Play all day!
It’s been a few days since I fell. I have been recovering really fast! My right hand doesn’t hurt anymore. Unless you pressure on it. My elbow has a lot of scabs but it’s healing. My left hand still hurts much more than any of my other injuries. Otherwise, I’m great! I do forget I am injured once-in-a-while. Then hurt myself because of my forgetfulness.
Overall, this is a rather important injury. It taught me a lesson saying “You should always pay attention to your speed and road surface.”
