My favorite theater

DB theater is one of the last remaining neighborhood theaters in Vancouver. Don’t be fooled by its theater name, it’s now a movie house. You could easily notice it from afar with a big red vertical “DB” neo-sign outside. The small blue theater was built in 1935 and lasted through WW2. I find it crazy that the theater didn’t even close once, throughout the war! And it’s still standing during the Covid-19 pandemic! Even when they are not allowed to have public screenings, they still are open for popcorns and snacks! If you are hungry and nearby, you could always drop by grab a delicious snack!

DB Theater is known for selling the Best Popcorn in Town! It may not exactly be the best popcorn but it sure is yummy! You can ask for your popcorn to be buttered for less than $1, or sometimes double buttered if you’re not on diet! Other than the delicious popcorn, they have a super long list of snacks!! From M&M to donuts! Yum!

Look at those snacks!!

One of the other things I like about the theater is that you can choose your own seats without pre-booking! Since they aren’t as popular as the big-chain cinema/theaters, they have much much more free seats! You can have a amazing seat for the same price as any other seat! All you have to do is buy a ticket and then walk in and choose your spot! I think that they want to maintain the old tradition as their unique feature!

I’ve been there twice. The first time was to watch Frozen 2 with my siblings last winter! It was special because that was the first time my and my siblings have gone to watch a movie alone! Plus, we got to the second floor and choose nice seats! We found the first row on the 2nd floor are the best :)) The animation of Frozen 2 was much better than the first one!! And there were some funny bits as well!! Like how Olaf told everyone Anna and Elsa’s story.

This was the first row on the second floor. Exactly where me and my siblings sat!

The 2nd time, we booked a private movie time and invite a family friend to go with us. It was really smart of theater owners to offer the private family rental. They still can employ the social distancing, in the meantime, they would have enough money to keep it open. It will be more expensive than a normal theater ticket but this way, you have a private time and space while help support your favorite theater. It was a special experience because we had the theater all to ourselves! We could talk, cheer, laugh, boo, scream and no one would judge us! It was really worth the money!

I would really like to come back and watch another movie at DB Theater :)) and I truly hope they will never have to cease the operation.
