(Beware of complicated design terminology. Design dictionary at the end, incase you don’t understand specific words)
At school, I have a class for design! And for my first unit in Design, I got to make designs for duffle bags! In this unit, I have learned much more to design then I have even known and had so much fun!
In the beginning, I had to understand the requirements. Out of the 3 market segments, demographic, psychographic and geographic, this duffle design was going to be influenced by your own psychographic. So every duffle bag was going to be different and unique. We started this unit off by brainstorming possible hobbies and interests. For me, that would include things like music, sports and reading. We had to fill in a Venn Diagram that includes pictures of our psychographic and pictures of existing duffle bags, as example for influence for our final design. Here is mine:

Then, once you have found your psychographic for your duffle bag, you then start making sketches. My teacher told me to make a total of 3 sketches, all relating to our psychographic. We could use really basic colours, so that it helps then making the final product. Can you guess what my psychographic is?

These steps were to be done by ourselves. But the next step can be kind of scary, in ways. We had to make a presentation about justifying our psychographic and plans for the final design in front of the class. Like everyone, I panicked because I felt like I didn’t have enough time. But in the end, I did pretty well AND got a good grade!
Finally, we got to make our design, after all the hard planning. I am proud of way my duffle bag design looks! But when it goes on the duffle bag, it doesn’t look as good. But anyways, here it is!

Sadly, for me, my duffle bag seemed to be delayed. When the first batch came, only half of all duffle bag designs (around 50 in total, so 25 came) came. Then when the other half came, my duffle bag just didn’t seem to be there. What fun.
Design Terminology:
- Psychographic = based on your clients interests hobbies
- Demographic = based on your clients age, race and gender
- Geographic = based on your clients area
- Justifying = explaining deeper
(I will update this when I receive my duffle bag. It will be written in blue)

I haven’t received my duffle bag yet, but I have redesigned my duffle bag design. The reasoning is because the way that it showed up on the duffle bag (online) didn’t look good and some landmarks was covered by the handle straps. So beware, the UPGRADED version of the one-of-a-kind, limited-edition, GOLDEN SCHLOND POOFA DUFFLE BAG!!!!!
