After a another year of school has passed by, I have to say I am very pleased with my accomplishments this year. Let’s get in the review!
This year, my Drama class had put on a play! A full 2 hour play with lighting, sound, costumes and a set! If you haven’t already, read my post on my play, Murder’s in the Heir!
I have learnt so much about theatre and Drama while in production for the play. I improved myself as a team-member and an actor at the same time. I was much more confident when I was on stage and gained skills every theatre actor should have: memorization, being able to solve problems on stage, acting in general and how to act on stage vs back stage. On stage, I could act as cool as a cucumber, but back stage is where all the anxiousness and panicking happens. I had the most fun rehearsing with my peers, and hope to be able to perform with them again one day!
An achievement I made this year is being “promoted” to Enriched Math class next year! This year, I learnt Math in the Standard Math class. Over the school year, however, my teacher saw that I made lots of progress and said that next year, 3 other students in my Math class and I will be learning in the Enriched Math class! I am pretty excited for the next school year now!
I was also able to maintain relatively good grades and work habits throughout the school year, though I did get a little lazier by the end. However, the maintenance of my grades show that my work has quality and I am able to produce good work for all of my subjects. I hope to keep this up for the next school year!
Additionally, I had somehow managed to join the Grade 8 Competitive Badminton Team! Badminton isn’t a hobby I participate in, nor am I skilled in the sport. But a couple friends and I had joined the Recreational Badminton Club earlier just to hangout and play badminton together. We all aren’t skilled, but we can rally the birdie a bit. Suddenly, we were informed that the Competitive team didn’t have enough members for a tournament, and so they had invited my friends and I, from the recreational club, to join their team for a time being. At first, I was extremely excited! I got to skip school and was allowed to play against other schools alongside my peers. But then realization hit me that I was unable to play like them. I got more worried, but overcame that on the day of the tournament.
Thinking back about the tournament, I get serious second-hand embarrassment, as I think I played terribly. However, this was a good experience and I would do it again, if I was more prepared. I had lots of fun other than playing with my teammates!
This school year has been exceptionally fun! I managed to learn while creating lots of memories with my classmates and friends. Looking forward to the next school year (after my amazing, very long awaited summer break 😉 )!
