Skiing with Friends / Trượt Tuyét cùng Bạn

Last week, I got to go skiing with a friend for the first time. It was a super fun experience with mostly exciting moments but some scary as well.

Skiing with a buddy is personally more thrilling because you can do more crazy things and you have someone to share the experience with. For example, if I hadn’t gone with him, I would have never tried skiing new runs, exploring newer regions of the mountain, or skied as long of a session.

Since I usually don’t ski on Cypress, he took me on some new runs I hadn’t skied down before. One in particular was not my favourite. It was called Horizon and it was considered a blue run, which I could quite confidently ski on my regular mountain, Seymour. That was definitely not the case at Cypress. It was probably one of the steepest hills I had ever skied. Even looking down the mountain felt scary. I couldn’t believe I actually managed to get down there.

One run I had lots of fun skiing down was Panorama. Especially the ending section. I would start from the top of the mountain going down a short, decently difficult blue run then merge into Panorama in the end. There was a very wide, long, straight hill that would run all the way to the lift and my friend and I would love to send it down that hill without stopping. We would reach speeds of up to 55 kph which felt insanely fast. The wind blowing in my face made me feel like I was flying and gave me an insane adrenaline rush every time.

In the end, my friend took me to a brand new run named T-33. It was around the same level as Horizon which got me very scared. We took an extra chair lift which meant we had to go down 2 runs to get to the bottom. I was thinking at that point that I could finish T-33 and go into Panorama. But guess what. I didn’t know the directions in the mountain and he made us go down Horizon. When I looked down the mountain and realized this wasn’t Panorama, I couldn’t do anything because there was no way back. I ended up having to be scared for my life and ski down Horizon one more time. Unfortunately, I fell very funnily on that run. My friend was sitting on the slope, waiting for me because I was a little slower. When I got to him, we both continued down. When I tried to turn with my skis, they got stuck in the snow and were locked forward, pointing right at him. I couldn’t stop so I had to sort of fall to the side and dodge him. One of my skis fell off but luckily my friend stopped it from falling down. Since the slope was so steep, when I tried to stand up, I would instantly slip and slide down the hill. It was super tough trying to put on my skis but I eventually made it and skied down the rest carefully.
