S P O I L E R A L E R T
Harry Potter is a great book series! From the characters, to the wizarding world, to the adventures that the golden trio venture forth. Though, obviously, the books and the movies are similar, yet really different as well. And in this post, I’ll be discussing the scenes, and differences between the books and movies.
Significant movie and book differences:
There were some scenes that didn’t make it into the books, and some important plots too! For example:
- Gryffindor winning the house cup in the 3rd book
That scene would’ve been great to add into the movies! The happiness of the Gryffindors, Harry being cheered upon and the anger the Slytherins would have possessed would have been triumphant!
- The 4th movie plot and background information
The 4th movie is by far the most different from the books of all movies. Especially with the background information about the Barty Crouch. The movie’s didn’t explain that Mr. Crouch had a son, whom was a secret death eater, and that there was some important history within his family. Like how Mrs. Crouch and Barth Crouch Junior both took Polyjuice Potion to change each others appearance and free the prisoner. That would’ve been important for the story, as it explains a lot for the build up for Voldemort’s re-appearance.
Something else that they forgot to add into the movies was the part where Harry and Victor Krum went to talk to each other at night, because it would add more connection between the 3 wizardry schools.
- The Quidditch World Cup
A lot about the Quidditch World Cup was in included in the movie of the Goblet of Fire. I would have liked to see Krum catch the Snitch, but still lose the match. And the Veela’s from the Bulgarian Team would’ve been neat.
- Peeves
As much as a pain Peeves was to control, he did have some significant events in the books. For example, in the Order of the Phoenix, Peeves was suppose to give Umbridge ‘hell’ from them, and he definitely took that seriously.
Peeves did add some extra drama and fun into the books, and I would have loved to see him in the movies. Most importantly, in the battle of Hogwarts, where Peeves troubles the Death Eaters. His moment of triumph.
- Order of the Phoenix
The Order of the Phoenix, is by far, the worst movie of the Harry Potter movie series in my opinion. They missed so much plot lines, so much scenes and dialogue, to the point where I don’t know where to start.
The Department of Mysteries was not what I expected. Especially the argument of whether who was going to the Ministry of Magic and who should stay. I found that they just skipped straight ahead, and were flying on Thestrals. Even when they found the prophecy, the skipped way to much of the build up to finding Lord Voldemort to have it make sense. Even the death of Sirius Black wasn’t as tragic as words made it.
The book however, was tremendous! Everything made so much sense, and so much emotion as well!
Comparison:
I personally prefer the book series instead of the movie. Of course, the movie has effects such as sound and visuals that words cannot describe. But the movie misses a lot of information. Not just things that are needed for the plot, but some interesting dialogue as well!
Nevertheless, the movies did add some scenes where the books didn’t have that were successful! And the movies did help me visualize a lot of things better than what I imagined. For example: the Veil in the Department of Mysteries. The archway was not what I thought of, but it worked in the end! (As my visualization didn’t make a lot of sense).
I haven’t seen all the movies yet, only from the first to the fifth. So when I do finish the movies, I will update this post to write more about things I shouldn’t made it into the movies!
